What is Ducted Gas Heating?

This is a gas appliance that heats air and transmits it via ductwork to floor or ceiling vents. This air does not contact or mix with the exhaust from the appliance, which is taken outside by a flue. Since the heat is produced by combustion, it is generated near instantaneously even in Canberra's lowest temperatures. The appliance can be put underfloor, in the ceiling or on an exterior wall. The gas ducted heating system will have at least one thermostat indoors to set the temperature that's needed. If it has more than one thermostat it can be zoned.

Zoning is when you have an automatic zone damper in the ductwork to open or close off zones of your home (a zone may be a room or a group of rooms). This lets you heat or cool some parts of your house while not heating or cooling others. You can also set the zones to heat to different temperatures. Whether you want zoning as part of a new ducted gas heater installation or want zoning for an existing ducted system, Climatrol can help!

Currently, Braemar ducted gas heaters run on either natural gas or LPG. However, Braemar heaters that are compatible with running on 100% hydrogen are coming soon. The only product of hydrogen combustion is water.

Add-On Cooling

Add-on cooling is a system that connects up with a ducted gas heating system to offer both heating and cooling through one network of ductwork (though be aware that if you have an existing ducted gas heater, your existing ductwork and heater model may or may not be suitable for add-on cooling – we can advise you on this for you when providing you with a free quote). An indoor cooling coil is installed into the ductwork of the gas ducted heating system. The cooling coil is then connected via pipes and cables to an outdoor condenser unit. Add-on cooling is a refrigerant-based system that is powered by electricity (not natural gas!)

Alternatively, ducted gas heating can be paired with evaporative cooling.

The photograph to the right (if you are using a computer) or above (if you are using a phone) shows two outdoor units installed at a large Canberra home. The bigger unit (with two fans) is the outdoor for a Braemar add-on cooling system. The smaller unit (with one fan) is the outdoor for a Fujitsu reverse cycle split system.
